The proliferation of internet usage among adolescents has been concomitant with the rapid development of information technology, which has engendered profound changes in daily life. The internet has emerged as a predominant medium for adolescents to explore their identity, seek information, and establish social interactions through social media and various other digital platforms. The ramifications of this phenomenon extend to various aspects of adolescents' well-being, encompassing their physical, social, and psychological health. Excessive internet use has been demonstrated to have a detrimental effect on sleep disturbances and cognitive function. The majority of research on the adverse effects of excessive internet use and its potential consequences has been conducted on adolescents. The present study utilizes a comprehensive literature review of international and national journals from 2020 to 2025, encompassing adolescent subjects. A comprehensive review of 11 journals sourced from PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar academic databases reveals that excessive internet use is associated with persistent sleep disturbances experienced by adolescents and has the potential to cause cognitive function disorders, such as decreased concentration, memory, thinking speed, and decision-making ability. The repercussions of this impaired cognitive function on adolescents' academic achievement, social interaction, and emotional development are significant. Consequently, this study was conducted with the objective of enhancing the understanding of this phenomenon and its implications for adolescents' well-being.
