DESCRIPTIVE STUDY OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF MOTHERS AND THE ROLE OF DENGUE HEMORRHAGIC FEVER MOSQUITO LARVAE WATCHER (JUMANTIK) IN MALEBER VILLAGE KARANGTENGAH DISTRICT CIANJUR REGENCY WEST JAVA PROVINCE

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is an infectious disease caused bydengue virus and transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes (Ministry of Health Indonesia. 2011).DHF Insidence Rate in Karang Tengah District in 2013 was 9,83 per 100.000 residentsand buildings free of larva were 96,92% whereas for Maleber Village, there were 3 DHF cases and was not covered buildings free of larva were 67,61% (Karang Tengah Puskesmas, 2013).Based on that background, the writer was intrigued to conduct a research about “Descriptive study of the characteristics of mothers and the role of Mosquito Larvae Watcher (Jumantik),and the presence of DHF larvae in Maleber Village, Karang Tengah District, Cianjur, West Java.â€This study is quantitative observational analytic with the design of "Cross Sectional Study",the study populations are the mothers domiciled in Maleber Village, Karang Tengah District, Cianjur Regency,West Java Province, with 233 samples of respondents and using the cluster technique.The result of this study is more than half of the respondents are young mothers(≤ 31, 4 years old) with 134 respondents (57,5%), the level of education of most respondents is at primary school level with 175 respondents (75,1%) and the working status of most respondents is not working with 203 respondents (87,1%). The mothers’ behavior of cleaning the tub at least once a week is ‘good’ with 152 respondents (65,2%), the behavior of closing water reservoirs is ‘not good’ with 171 respondents (74,4 %), the behavior of burying scraps and checking for larvae is ‘not good’ with 208 responden (89,3%), the behavior of pouring abate powder is ‘not good’ with 213 respondents (91,4%), the behavior of Jumantik in checking for larvae. according to respondents, is not very involved with 217 respondents (91,4%)and the presence of Aedes aegyptilarvae in residential homes of respondents is ‘no larvae found’ with 136 respondents (54,4%).The writer suggests that Jumantik officers improve their role in eradicating mosquito larvae, and for organizations in the community to promote the message to help eradicate DHF mosquito larvae.References
