Abstract

Lelly Qodariah, NIM 1006988, is an S3 Social Studies Postgraduate Student at The Indonesia Educational University, Bandung. Led by Prof. Dr. Dadang Supardan, M. Pd., as adviser, a dissertation entitled “The „Aisyiyah Women Organization struggle for gender Equality in Educational, Health, and Social life Opportunitiesâ€, to be included in the Social Studies materials, as a means to Improve Teaching and Learning Values. This Study. Which
based on Case Study method, and use qualitative tradition, were  enriched with data acquired through long observation on „Aisyiyah activities and depth interviews with their leaders. Following Miles and Hubermann data analysis model, this study chose the model of data reduction, which was followed  by data display, and data analysis using Erklaren and
Verstehen methods. To understand the „Aisyiyah‟s motivation and goals the data analyzed by Dilthey‟ Hermeneutics. Research findings showed that social changes during the phase of Indonesian struggle for independence, contributed to the rise of woman awareness on their
rights and roles in society. Following Muhammadiyah‟s model on modernization, the „Aisyiyah association as their sub organization, therefore, open schools for girls, open clinics for women, teach the would be midwifes, and care for the homeless children. All efforts, accordingly, were guided by the Islamic concepts of women position, ijtihad (learning), and leaderships. Recommendations were addressed towards the Social Studies teachers to use varieties of materials, and to the Government for improving the Social Studies Curriculum. After decades of struggling and working their ideals, by now, the „Aisyiyah Women Organization is well established throughout the Nusantara.
