Teams Games Tournament (TGT) is a method that is supposed to be effective in improving students’ speaking skill. It can provide learners with opportunities to practice their speaking ability through competition. The activity is carried out in small group. Each group consists of students with different ability. To see the effectiveness of TGT, quasi-experiment is implemented in which the only experiment class is treated. The number of students for both experiment and control class is 20 students. After the implementation of the study, the calculation of normality test of pretest and posttest for control class shows that the sample is normally distributed. It is = 8.37 < = 9.49, and = 3.17 < = 7.81; it means that Ho is accepted. The sample of experiment class is also normally distributed; it shows that = 6.09 is less than = 7.81, and = 6.53 is less than = 9.49, so Ho is accepted. For homogeneity test, it reveals that the variance score for pretest between experiment and control class is Fcount< Ftable, (1.30 < 2.17), and posttest score between experiment and control class Fcount< Ftable, (1.41 < 2.17), so Ho is accepted; both data variances are homogenous. Then, the calculation of independent t-test, the result is tcount> ttable or 6.92 > 2.02; it means that Ho is rejected and Hi hypothesis is accepted. It proves that Teams Games Tournament (TGT) method is effective to improve students’ speaking skill.References
